A lesson on superstitions that works well in a multicultural class, because students compare their own beliefs. They judge six photos as lucky or unlucky in their country, learn 8 key words (lucky, unlucky, luck, belief, floor, grape, sound, midnight) and read a simplified magazine-style article (the 13th floor, the numbers 4 and 8 in China, 12 grapes in Spain, black cats). Tasks include gist, true/false with evidence from the text and a country-and-belief table. Students then describe photos in pairs, react to five short opinions and share three beliefs on sticky notes in groups, with a class vote on the most interesting. Teacher tips and answer key included.
